Here's a perfectly healthy Easy Wonton Soup recipe using store-bought frozen potstickers (wontons) for a quick and delicious Asian soup that you'll savor all winter long!
This classic Chinese soup is full of healthy vegetables and homemade miso broth that's ready in just 15 minutes.
How to make the wonton soup broth:
You won't believe how easy it is to make this flavorful wonton soup broth! Using just a few ingredients and miso paste is all you'll need.
Ingredients you'll need:
- Sesame oil
- Garlic cloves
- Fresh ginger
- Chicken broth
- Water
- Miso paste (white or yellow)
- Sambal oelek (optional for heat)
- In a large stockpot or Dutch oven, heat the sesame oil over medium heat. Add the garlic and ginger and sauté until fragrant (about 2 minutes)
- Stir in the chicken broth, water, and miso paste. Bring to a boil and then lower to a simmer for 10 minutes.
- If you want extra heat, add in 1 teaspoon of sambal oelek (red chili paste).
I like to use organic miso paste for the intense umami flavor. I also make sure it's reduced-sodium miso paste as the soup will be extra salty otherwise. You're going to also want to try my Miso Chicken Noodle Soup that's my Asian-twist on the classic. It's so delicious and belly-warming!
Beautiful baby bok choy and shiitake mushrooms cook up very quickly in this broth, so add them at the very end.
Frozen potstickers (wontons) are the "cheat" in this Easy Wonton Soup! You can get them at just about any grocery store. I picked mine up at Trader Joe's. You can make the wontons from scratch, but if you want something quick, the frozen potstickers will save you a ton of time!
This beautiful pot of Easy Wonton Soup is so satisfying, but not too filling. It's the perfect soup for the chilly days ahead!
Tips & Tricks
- You can make the wontons from scratch, but if you want something quick, the frozen potstickers (wontons) will save you a ton of time!
- If you like your wonton a little spicy, add some sambal oelek. Sambal can be found at most grocery stores in the Asian section, and at Asian markets.
- There are many variations of this soup. You can add in shrimp or chicken. Don't like mushrooms? Leave them out. Don't have baby bok choy? Add fresh spinach leaves instead!
- You can freeze any leftover wonton soup broth for up to 3 months.
